June 16, 2020

A round up of black women chefs you should be following on Instagram right now!

In an effort to make my following more diverse and also uplift people of color in the online and food space, I have been looking for black women chefs to follow on social media. I’ve been amazed at all the incredible chefs I’ve come across since starting this search and I wanted to share them with all of you!

The ladies featured in this round up are INCREDIBLE. They are masters in the kitchen, using simple whole food ingredients to create beautiful, delicious dishes. From vegan and keto everything in between, these black women are cooking up a storm on Instagram and in real life. They’re sharing their masterpieces for us to drool over and make at home…and I am taking FULL advantage.

Today on the last day of our 21 day @eatyourselfsexyjourney we closed out with a spiritual charge from my queen mother @queenafua then we celebrated by swerving this raw organic chocolate pecan cheesecake! I am so full of live and gratitude right now! This journey has been more than i could have asked god for! We all have grown and learned so much! I am so proud of you and even more proud that most of the journeyers are continuing on to the next 21 day wellness journey! Stay tuned for all of the testimonials! Anyway these are the kinds of things we’ll be learning how to make on this second 21 day journey! I also want to shout out my beloved friend chef t @rawtoeresa for being so amazing! I love and appreciate you so much! Go follow her after you click the link in my bio to sign up! She’s a 63 year old raw food bombshell! Love y’all! OWN YOUR GLOW – I got tagged in this challenge so many times… I it was time to finally do it. ?? So much of my work is about lifting others, particularly women, at the threshold of change in their lives. So support is something I know how to do well and it is something I have been the beneficiary of. In this time so many of us are trying to process, rest, heal. I want you to know I am praying for your peace. Read below and pass it on. Spread love ❤️ _ “We are BLACK WOMEN!….. We have VOICES of power. We are vulnerable. We are sisters. We don’t bring down other BLACK WOMEN! We have endured the pain of being dismissed, NOT BEING SEEN in our beauty, and being silenced. We have decided to be deliberate about building up others! There is a tagging limit so I am only tagging 20 people. All too often, folks find it easier to criticize each other, instead of building each other up. Spreading love. With all that is happening in the world let’s be intentional about shining our light!! _ ? Upload 1 picture of yourself. ? Tag as many fellow queens to do the same. ?Let’s build ourselves up and crown our inner queens. ?✨ COPY AND PASTE and keep it moving.” #blackwomen #ownyyouglow #support #uplift #inspiration #spreadlove

While I sit here in denial that summer will eventually end on this fine #tbt, I am reminded that fall will certainly be upon us. And with that comes delectable fall veggies. So at least there is that. ???? Happy Thursday. . . This is me, in my happy place, a garden harvesting sweet potatoes. West End community garden in Birmingham, Alabama . . Living in NY, my gardening levels are currently in my home and terrace. I’m actively looking for land to have my oqn mini farm, family and friends welcome ?. Do you have garden or volunteer at one? . . PS Have you downloaded my free, new ebook of plant based recipes? Visit ebook.yolisgreenliving.com to download it. . . #garden #gardening #plantbased #yolisplantstoplate

????Hey new friends, welcome and thank you for joining us ?!⁣ ⁣ i’ve noticed an influx of new faces over the past couple of days so I would like to take this time to share a bit about me. ⁣ .⁣ My name is Leeonney (lee-oh-knee) but in the culinary world I go by Chef Lee. I was born and raised in St. Vincent and the Grenadines ??, a picturesque island located in the Southern Caribbean. Performing & creative arts have shaped so much of my childhood and have afforded me the opportunity to represent my country multiple times in the form of acting, singing and pageantry. (Sidebar) I’m a three time pageant queen -Ms. Unity Youth (2012), Ms. P’tani (2012) & Ms. Rural SVG (2012). However, these days I express myself in the kitchen by way of showcasing the local flavours and dishes of the Southern Caribbean that raised me. ⁣ .⁣ I am the Chef, recipe developer, photographer and content creator behind the brand @platedbyleshe. Caribbean flavours are my specialty, so the goal and mission is to expand your knowledge of and about Caribbean cuisine beyond the usual “jerk chicken”. Most times people equate Caribbean food to Jamaican food but let me tell you this, the Caribbean’s culinary basket stretches far beyond those flavours. As a #vegan Chef, I take pride in being able to introduce new flavours and dishes to my menus that keep people inspired and healthy. Light, fresh and island-inspired are the three words that I use to describe my cooking. Why? Because that’s exactly how caribbean cooking makes me (and my clients) feel.⁣ . ⁣ Now, how can you get in on all this (island) #blackgirlmagic? Well, first you can start by sharing this post ?to help spread the word with your network. You can take advantage of the weekly meal delivery service (forget “hellofresh” and stock your fridge with homemade healthy #caribbean meals instead). You can also try an in-home private dinner where you can enjoy 5 ? restaurant style service in the comfort of your own home (our menus are unique and you can dine in your pajamas #nojudgement). ⁣ .⁣ Thank you for joining me on this culinary journey and I look forward to connecting with and serving you soon!⁣ ⁣ -Chef Lee⁣ ?: @dmcgphotography
